Jackery Explorer: A Green Energy System for Outdoor Enthusiasts

Wei Bai, Jinghua Liu, and Xiaowei Yin Develop an Innovative Charging System

Jackery Explorer is a unique system that combines photovoltaic (PV), energy storage system (ESS), and charging functionalities. The designers were inspired to create a solution that makes outdoor electricity use more convenient. The system uses outdoor car tents and outdoor power banks as carriers, adopting PV power generation and rapid energy storage technology to create a green energy system. This system can provide high-quality clean energy for outdoor explorers, even in harsh environments.

The uniqueness of the Jackery Explorer lies in its integrated system, which includes a PV charging integrated vehicle-mounted tent and an outdoor power supply. The vehicle-mounted tent converts sunlight into electricity through a PV roof system, which is then stored in the outdoor power supply. This process allows for the sustainable utilization of sunlight as a clean energy source, providing power for outdoor activities.

The Jackery outdoor power supply is made of aluminum-magnesium alloy and carbon fiber, boasting dust prevention, vibration resistance, ultra-quiet, and waterproof characteristics. It can adapt to extreme environments, including low temperatures of -43 Celsius and altitudes of 5000 meters. The vehicle-mounted tent, made of aviation aluminum alloy, offers high-strength compression protection, strong bearing capacity, and sound insulation, ensuring a safe, stable, and comfortable camping experience.

The designers faced the challenge of maximizing the solar charging efficiency of the photovoltaic systems. The solution was to store more solar panels at the top of the tent by folding, and they are pushed around by a connecting rod motor to increase the light receiving area of the solar panels as much as possible.

Jackery Explorer was awarded the Golden A' Energy Products, Projects and Devices Design Award in 2023.
